Football Darts 301
A strategic Premier League goal countdown quiz.
Football Darts 301 is a unique quiz game that blends the classic darts countdown format with Premier League football knowledge. Every day brings a new question — such as "Name English Premier League goalscorers" or "Name Arsenal players by Premier League assists" — and a stat to match: goals, assists, appearances, wins or clean sheets. You start with 301 points and name players who fit the question; each player's total for today's stat is subtracted from your countdown. Your aim is to land in the "finish zone" between 0 and -10 points. But there's a catch: any player whose stat is 181 or higher is a BUST — the guess is thrown out and your total doesn't move.
It's not just about knowing the record-holders. The real skill lies in managing your countdown strategically — knowing the players in the mid-range of today's stat is just as valuable as knowing the all-time greats. Football Darts 301 rewards the kind of deep Premier League knowledge that only true fans possess.
How to Play
- Read today's question. Each day sets the player pool and the stat — for example "Name French Premier League goalscorers" (goals) or "Name English players by Premier League clean sheets" (clean sheets).
- Start at 301. Your countdown begins at 301 points.
- Name a player. Type the name of a Premier League player who fits the question.
- Today's stat is subtracted. The player's total for the day's stat comes off your countdown. A player who doesn't fit the question subtracts nothing but still uses up a guess.
- Hit the finish zone. You need to land between 0 and -10 to win.
- Mind the BUST. A stat of 181+ or a result below -10 is a BUST — the guess is discarded and your total stays put.
Key Rules
- The 180 Rule: Any player whose total for today's stat is 181 or more triggers a BUST, just like throwing over 180 in darts. The guess is discarded and your countdown stays put — but it still costs you a guess, so the big names are tempting yet dangerous.
- Finish Zone: You must finish between 0 and -10 points. A guess that would drop you below -10 is also a BUST and gets thrown out. Your final player needs to put you within this precise window.
- Fit the Question: Only players who match today's question count. Name someone outside the pool and nothing is subtracted — but the guess is still spent.
- No Repeats: Each player can only be named once per game. You can't use the same player twice to whittle down your countdown.
Scoring System
| Action | Points |
| Starting score | 20 points |
| Guesses 1 through 3 | No penalty |
| Each guess after 3 | -1 point per guess |
| BUST or invalid guess | Discarded — total unchanged, but the guess still counts |
| Successful finish (0 to -10) | Keep remaining points |
| Score runs out before you finish | 0 points |
Example Round
Today's question: Name English Premier League goalscorers — so English players' goal tallies are subtracted.
You start at 301.
Guess 1: Jamie Vardy (136 goals) — Countdown drops to 165.
Guess 2: Jermain Defoe (163 goals) — Countdown drops to 2.
Guess 3: Any English player with between 2 and 12 goals — a trusty defender is perfect — lands you in the finish zone. You win with 20 points in 3 guesses!
But watch the traps: Wayne Rooney (208 goals) would be a BUST — over 180, so the guess is discarded. And on this question Sergio Aguero doesn't count at all: he's Argentine, so naming him subtracts nothing and wastes a guess. On another day the same countdown might run on assists, appearances, wins or clean sheets.
Strategy Tips
Check the stat before you guess. A safe name on a goals day can be a BUST on an appearances day — plenty of long-serving pros sit way above 180 appearances. Always re-read today's question first.
Know your mid-range. Players in the 20-60 band of today's stat are your bread and butter for fine-tuning your countdown as you approach the finish zone. Build a mental catalogue for each stat type.
Plan your finish. Once your countdown is below 100, start thinking about which combination of players can land you in the 0 to -10 window. Having a few single-digit players for today's stat in mind is crucial for the final approach.
Avoid the big names early. On a goals day it's tempting to name Wayne Rooney or Andrew Cole to make a big dent, but a stat of 181+ means a BUST and a wasted guess. Stick to prolific-but-not-legendary picks early on.
Remember the low numbers. On a goals day, defenders and goalkeepers with 0-5 goals are perfect for micro-adjustments when you're close to the finish zone. Whatever the stat, think about who sits at the bottom of that chart.
